Drink Yourself to Sleep Recipes for Restful Teas
To Treat Insomnia T’s Slumber Elixir - to treat insomnia- adjusted from “Healthy at Home” by Tieraona Low Dog, M.D.
5 grams hops flowers
5 grams valerian root
5 grams California poppy herb
5 grams balm herb
100 milliliters brandy
2 tablespoons raw honey
Grind the herbs and put in a tall glass jar. Add brandy and raw honey. Stir well. Cover with a lid and let sit for 2 weeks. Strain and put in a dark bottle, label, and store in a cabinet.
How to Use: Teens and Adults: Take 1 teaspoon 30 minutes before bedtime. Can be taken in hot water, or straight off the spoon.
Note: This elixir is designed to help you sleep. Do not take it f you are going to be driving or doing other things that require your attention. Don’t mix herbal sedatives with prescription sleeping pills. Women who are pregnant or breast-feeding shout not use this elixir.
Restful Teas
Raw Honey tea: 1 cup near-boiling water over 1 teaspoon raw honey and juice from 1/2 lemon. Stir and enjoy. (Option: add cinnamon or ginger.)
Ginger tea: 1 cup near-boiling water over a slice of peeled ginger or 1 teaspoon of dried ginger. Let steep for three minutes. Stir and remove ginger piece and enjoy. (Option: Add raw honey.)
German chamomile tea: Same as above but with two teaspoons chamomile flowers. Strain the liquid and enjoy. (Option: Add raw honey and/or juice from half of one lemon.)
